Sit to stand
An introductory movement guide based on NHS general strength guidance. Read the source and consider your health circumstances before trying it.
How to approach the movement
Use a stable chair without wheels. Sit towards the front, with feet on the floor. Lean slightly forward and stand up steadily, then sit down slowly. Choose support and a range of movement appropriate to your ability.
Control and comfort
Start gradually. Use stable support, move smoothly and stop if you feel pain or unwell. This guide does not select a personal dose, resistance or rehabilitation programme.
